just plain bored

So I saw this Monday poll that Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog published.

Basically she compiled questions that her readers have been asking her.

It looked fun to answer them even when it’s not a Monday. So here we go!

Le List

1. What did you do last weekend?

I went out with friends, dined and danced the night away. And slept through an earthquake. Scary!

2. Folks who are fun to travel with?

Friends definitely!

3. Did you ever go through a rebellious stage?

Maybe. But it wasn’t that bad. I think I handled myself well all throughout puberty and very trying times.

4. Your current favorite hand cream?

Milk or was it called Cake? Velveteen hand cream. But I love the hand and cuticle buffer more!

5. What did you have for breakfast this morning?

I’m sure it was last night’s leftovers. #yebah!

6. Something you keep meaning to do but haven’t gotten to yet?

Drinking water only and not having soda. #veryguilty

7. When was the last time you went to the beach?

I think last May? I did hit the beach a lot last summer. Finally!

8. High-waisted cut-off jean shorts — yes or no?

Just no.

9. Do you drink enough water?

Definitely not. Unless you count the water in the coffee? I usually do 5 vending cups in about 8 hours. No?

10. One thing you’re working on this week?

How in the world do I organize my email??? That I definitely have to work on stat or else I’m screwed!

Now, it’s your turn!

of non-intelligence and daily babbles POST #14

Last Week in my World…

Finally won something!
About last week, I had won an Yves Rocher handcream over at YEY!!! I’m more excited about the fact that I had won a raffle giveaway.
I’ve emailed my shipping address but have not received a reply so Im not too sure if I’ll ever get to receive it. But at least I can say I won a raffle!!!

Then something funny really happened last week, high school crush posted a comment on one of my status. Oh memories of high school. It was cute and sweet but it’s all in the past.

Then I tried using the Neutrogena HydroBoost Water Gel one more time after swearing never to use it again the first time I used it.  My pores went larger again!  So never again. To Neutrogena, Can I return it and get a refund and get some pore treatment?

2 weeks ago I saw 3 movies, The Hunger Games, Hello Stranger and The Vow. If I were to watch one of the 3 films again, I think I’d have the stomach to watch Hello Stranger.
Not my favorite movie but there are scenes in there that I really liked that I wish Filipino cinematographers can execute in their films. To Filipino Movie Makers, if you were to make cheesy movies please for the love of God, do it with a lot of heart and don’t just do it for the paycheck (lookin’ at you Star Cinema, who I remember back in the day made really good movies, although the endings are always cliche -Madrasta, Magic Temple, AngTV the movie, Batang PX, Separada, Sana Maulit Muli, Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara, Sarah ang munting Prinsesa, Pare Ko(I can watch this over and over again), Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa (my all time favorite Filipino movie), Dekada 70, Ang Lalake Sa Buhay ni Selya (which I only saw snippets as a kid and gave me an impression that it was a good film and I should watch it when I turn 18..unfortunately I havent seen it yet now that I’m 27 :( ), Anak, and Got 2 Believe which I think started all these love song titled films. The difference between Got 2 Believe and all these Star Cinema manufactured romcoms was….everything! From story to actors to editing. I’m even convinced that 27 Dresses stole its story from Got 2 Believe but never got to be better than the latter.

Wait, why am I talking about  all these Filipino movies??

Getting back on track.

Speaking of movies, and Filipino movies at that (which I had no intention of talking about), I heard that the OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is discouraging Foreign Acts to stage performances in the country because they feel that it’s trumping the OPM industry.

Please allow me to put my 2 cents in.

Dear OPM, How in the world do you expect us to support you when all you come up with are renditions of foreign and local songs????
When was the last time any of you came up with an all original album?
When was the last time you launched an original song with much creativity??
Any independent artist can easily answer my question but to OPM, when was the last time you supported the independent artists??  When you have these indie acts or bands on your variety shows, why in the world must you put in one of your mainstay singers only to murder the song?!! That’s very disrespectful and I am always offended by that.
In variety shows, what songs do you perform to? Are they yours? Or are they from foreign acts like Lady Gaga and Beyonce? No need for you to answer.
So to OPM, stop complaining to consumers at how you’re not getting enough support when you’re not in fact giving us consumers any type of creative output.

Everytime you stage large events, you always end it by singing Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika over and over and over again.

I’m so sick of it.

Look at KPop, they have their own songs, now look at you, you’re trying to be KPop. Can’t you tell why no one’s willing to shell out money for you?
If I had 5,000 Pesos to watch either Jessie J or Pops Fernandez on the same night, who do you think would I pick?
Now I ask you the same question.

Now I need me a drink.

#justsayin’: Bayo “What’s Your Mix” Campaign

I have something to say about the Bayo ads that have recently come out.

(This is me trying to be in the know of current events).

When I first saw the ads from, first thing that went to my mind was:

“What the fuck?”

“What about 95% of this population that don’t have any foreign blood?”

“Bayo now into extreme niche marketing?”

“Discrimination much?”

I wanted to write a comment on the blog but I held my thoughts because everyone commenting seemed to have “mixes” and I thought I’d come out as a racist.

Then suddenly articles came out about the print ads that shared my same sentiments.

I took another look at the ads and realized that the campaign was not trying to discriminate but Bayo and whoever came up with the concept thought that they can feature their designs by identifying it with a country or a culture.

The half Chinese girl (well she’s not half because she’s 80% Chinese according to the Bayo calculator but I’m too tired to look for a word that means 80%, same goes out to everyone in the campaign who are not 50/50)wearing a red dress with gold cuffs, red lips, well coated eye lashes and raised skirt to mimic a slit :

How Ms. China.

Then you have the half Indian girl wearing a pair of golden yellow short trousers that’s supposed to represent the Indian sari I suppose:

The half Brit model, who I think has the worse styling out of the bunch…so boring go figure, I don’t even want to bother myself typing…wearing silver cuffs to remind us of the medieval times I guess?

Is this how Bayo thinks Brits dress?  Boring?

But since we are in the subject of stereotyping, i find the above outfit more Singaporean. Sorry for the boring tag but Singapore has always been corporate to my mind.

Even if I had a bangin’ body, I’d never use those pieces together.

They could’ve gotten rid of the coat, replaced the shorts with a skirt, tied the ends of the shirt together and given her hair some messy fringes.  Geesh.  Suddenly, Alexa Chung comes to mind.

Victoria Beckham wouldn’t even wear such a boring ensemble even if those are the last clothes on Earth.

And one more thing, they couldn’t even tuck her tummy via photoshop or give her some boobs.  WhattaFail!

Next Photo!

We now have the half African model in a Burgundy “Safari inspired” coat and shorts.  This campaign’s theme is really about stereotypes, huh?

And the last one, half Australian Jasmine Curtis Smith in a blue plaid top and khakis showing the Philippines “This is how boring ranch life in Australia is”

Oh Bayo!  What to do with these ads?

I get your concept.  It was supposedly easy, it was just supposed to be a catalog of your clothes but your execution was, well, for most it was discriminating while for me it was stereotyping.

The styling was very poor.  If I were a fashion retail brand, I’d never mix and match those clothes the way you did and call them “world class”.

To Bayo: You should fire whoever came up with A.) your designs B.) the styling C.) your ad and D.) the approval signature.

i kinda feel bad for those who had to marry out of convenience…then again why not?

maybe i should seriously consider it.

should i stay or should i go

unfortunately, la opisina has blocked wordpress…the reason why i hardly post anything here.

i found out, about 4 weeks ago, that tumblr hasnt been blocked yet (im expecting they’ll find out soon).

so far i’m quite happy with tumblr. its very blog-ish.

so the million dollar question is…should i stay or should i go?

(the screenshot below is how my tumblr looks like

se a

The kid below is my officemate’s cousin. She’s half korean/half filipino. Her name Se-A means Asia’s Owner. The name was bought for an equivalent of 50,000 PHP in Korea. WATTA!!!!

youtube overdose.

i watched some of this year’s vma highlights and reviews.

how can you miss out on the kanye drama?

i’ve probably seen 70% of the vlogs out there on youtube regarding the whole kanye-taylor shiz.

(probably spent the last 3 hours watching videos about it)

some if not most of the african-american community aren’t too happy about what kanye west did.

this reminds me of the whole 2PM-Jay Park myspace issue that also got different kinds of uproar from koreans and korean-americans.

i’m just glad to find out that there are people who can rationalize things and that there are accessible avenues to air out opinions.

new theme. for a change.

i’m a bit scared about tomorrow’s event.

i hope we do well or else El Presidente will resent me forever.

About the new coffee shop…

The owner spoke with us a little earlier asking us how we feel about the place.

So nice of him to assure us that he’s not going to compromise regular customers’ experience (i shared to him what happened with cafe miro).

and because he was uber nice, i invited him to tomorrow’s event.

that wasn’t really a consolation for him…teeheee.

i don’t have pictures of the new coffee shop yet.

i’ll post some once i get to stay here during the day.

we did tell him that the lights are bit dim during the night.

not quite conducive to reading or studying.

he spoke about USB lights…uhmm..not sure about that but hey, at least he’s planning to do something about it.

i’m just praying to God that this place is for good. I want this to be my Central Perk =)

on facebook

uhmm..ya. i gave in.

i’m giving it one week though.

thank God for friends who have the patience to walk me through the super basic stuff of ‘FB’ (eeee).
